Making Flower Arrangements

Flowers have always symbolized life's special occasions and emotions. We use flowers for wedding decorations, Christmas ornaments, and Valentine's Day offerings. Whatever the occasion is, a well-designed flower arrangement is a sweet and nice way to celebrate life.

Instead of ordering from the florists, you can make your own flower arrangement. It is a fun, creative, and money saving since you will not have to pay for labor costs. You just buy the flowers that you want and the few paper or plastic materials that you also need to complete the arrangement. Here are important tips you can use when making your own flower arrangements:

1. First, consider your purpose. Is it for a wedding, a birthday, a present for your mother, or simply a home decoration? Your purpose, together with the occasion, will help you decide the kind of flowers and accessories you will need. Also, decide earlier on if you are going to make a simple arrangement or an elaborate one so you will know how many flowers you need to buy.

2. For vase arrangements, choose your container first before picking out the flowers. It should have the correct height for the kind of flowers you want to use. You may want to use a tall vase for a tulip arrangement. In cutting your flowers, be sure you cut the stems at an angle because that will let them absorb water properly and stay fresh for a long time.

3. Choose a color scheme for flowers in groups. For instance, do not combine red with pink roses, or yellow daisies with dyed green carnations. Choose flowers that appear and smell good when blended with others. Also, fill in the gaps with leafy greenery and baby's breath.

4. For large arrangements, rather than picking many tiny blooms, select a few large flowers that will act as focal points. Too many small flowers will distract the eye and make the arrangement seem disorganized rather than refreshing.

Flower arrangement is an intuitive art. With good color combinations and right placements, you will surely end up with a satisfying, attractive work of art.

3 Flower Gardening Tips

Flower gardening is a simple and rewarding hobby for many people. It does require hard work and dedication but the rewards are far better. Here are a few flower gardening tips that will keep your flower garden in tiptop condition and in the process enjoy yourself.

Flower Gardening Tip #1 : Planting

One of the most important steps in flower gardening is deciding where to do your planting. If you decide to plant it in a container, you can pretty much replicate the soil conditions you wanted. It is easier and much simpler to manage.

If you decide to plant it in your backyard, you should do a soil test first to determine the type of soil in your backyard. You can grab a test soil kit from your neighborhood gardening store which should be readily available.

Ideally, you want the soil to be composed of equal parts clay and sand. Too much of either clay or sand is not suitable for flower gardening. Clay does not drain well and roots cannot get hold easily in clay. Sand does not retain nutrients and elements well and does not hold together easily therefore it is impossible to grow flowers on sand.

Flower Gardening Tip #2 : Gardening Journal

A gardening journal can help you keep track of your flower garden progress and is recommended. With a gardening journal, you can keep track of the success and failure you have with the type of flowers you have grown in your pot or backyard. Doing so can reduce the amount of time you need to grow your next flower garden. You can use any notepad to keep track. There are even professional software available on the market that does this.

Flower Gardening Tip #3 : Organic Materials

All flowers require fertilizers to grow well. A suitable amount of organic matter or fertilizer in the soil makes it fertile and nutrient rich. It would be easier to grow flowers on such soil.

If your soil does not have much organic matter, it is still pretty easy to change the soil by adding compost to it. Compost is the remains of plants and animals and you can get it easily from your gardening supply store.

Compost provides nutrients and can help in drainage and hold moisture, conditions necessary for flower gardening.

There are other flower gardening tips as well but the above 3 flower gardening tips are in my opinion the most important to growing a flower garden.

Flower Gardening

When you think of any kind of gardening, the first thing that pops into your mind is flower gardening. Flowers and gardens being naturally synonymous with each other. And dedicated gardener that you are, you’ll naturally be doing your own flower gardening this year.

Flower gardening need not be limited only to summertime. If you plan carefully and plant ahead of time, your garden can be filled with an abundance of flowers for most of the year.

If we start by seasons, then for spring flowers, the best thing you could do would be to plant bulbs. Any nursery will have them, and if you’re more inclined towards the exotic, and rarer flowering bulbs, there’s a good chance you can have them ordered specially.

Favorites amongst bulb lovers are early springtime Crocuses, and cheerful Snowdrops. Tulips though, are by and away the most famous of bulbs in demand by flower gardeners, and are available in a variety of shades, including a black-colored one, which is really more of a deep maroon and one of those rare flowers I was talking about earlier.

Remember that all spring flowering bulbs should be planted in mid autumn, as this is the best time for them. Come any closer to winter and you’re in danger of losing your bulbs altogether.

Moving through to summer, we find that perennials are a firm favorite for flower gardening as they yield blooms almost continuously throughout the season, and sometimes beyond. With a little luck and care, you’ll also find that most of your perennials will last through to next year, and the year after that, and, well you get the picture right? You’ll also find that as the years and the seasons wear on, your perennials will become fuller, and generally will become more abundant than the first year you planted them.

As autumn gently closes in most flower gardens are left bereft of anything but a few small hardy plants. If you're into more dedicated flower gardening however, that need not be the case for you. Hardy, drought resistant plants like Asters number among the many types of fall flowers available, and will look stunning in late summer/early fall, Generally, autumn plants will grow to a good 3-4 feet in height, and have vivid colors, as well as the more genteel pastel colors to choose from. Ornamental grasses are another favorite and will nicely complement your fall flowers.

To round off the year and your efforts at flower gardening, don't despair as there are many winter blooms available. Amaryllis, Hyacinth, and Narcissus are a few of the more common known flowers and are available in bulb form. If you want something a little more out of the ordinary, you could always try Winter Jasmine, or Winter Honeysuckle.

So, take heart, take plenty of notes, plan, and buy to your heart's content. By the end of it all you truly will have a flower for every season, and your flower gardening efforts will be rewarded most bountifully

Flower Gifts

Giving flowers has been a tradition all over the world for many years. People give flowers for different reasons – to show their love for someone, to show appreciation, or to show sympathy. Many even believe that flowers can cast a certain kind of spell to anyone receiving them – they could speak a thousand words so that the sender never has to say a thing. So if you’re thinking of a particular gift to give your special someone, flowers would be an excellent choice.

You can find different varieties and colors of flowers anywhere, regardless of the season. Flower gifts are available in flower shops and gardens in different arrangements, sizes and price ranges. But before you buy those lovely roses or tulips, be sure to take into account the two things you ought to consider when buying:

First, the occasion. When buying flower gifts, you always consider what the occasion or celebration is all about. If it’s a birthday, for example, you can buy ‘birth flowers.’ January birthday celebrants should be given snowdrops and carnations; February celebrants should be given primroses and violets, and so on.

Secondly, find florists that offer package deals with reasonable prices. Be sure to thoroughly inquire about their ordering, delivery and payment systems, packaging and flower arrangements, flower varieties, and sizes and colors before buying. Try as many shops as you can until you find the flowers you’re looking for. Ask out some friends about what flower shops they can recommend.

If you do not have much time, the best way to find and buy flower gifts is though the internet. You can browse thousands of flowers in a variety of arrangements, colors and packages in just a few minutes. You can even search for the exact flowers you want and set a limit on the price range. The only downside to this kind of shopping is that you do not get to see and touch the flowers personally to check for freshness and overall condition.

Flow as in Flower

The seeds you sow determine the crop you reap. This is pretty common knowledge. Knowledge, unfortunately, is only productive in its application, not in its accumulation or ownership.

We desire peace but sow seeds of violence and are surprised when violence is the crop.

We desire abundance but sow seeds of limitation and are surprised when lack is the crop.

We desire meaningful lives but sow meaningless acts and are surprised to reap meaningless lives.

We desire more time and longer lives but sow wasted moments and are surprised to reap time slipping away.

We desire prosperity but sow seeds of scarcity and are surprised when scarcity shows up.

We desire love and sow indifference.

We desire freedom and sow security.

And so on and so forth.

Ah, but, things are the way they are and it is best/easiest to go with the flow rather than fight it. This is the common wisdom...go with the flow.

Society is overwhelmingly materialistic, so we just go with the flow and become avid consumers. The leaders we allow and the media we believe preach fear and war, so we just go with the flow and march off to do battle. Economists and prognosticators talk about lack, limitation and scarcity so we just go with the flow and compete for a little piece of the dwindling pie. Lemmings all, going with the flow to the cliff's edge.

There is another way to go with the flow and that is to be natural as nature exemplifies. A seed sown, grows into a plant, blooms and produces flowers, things of beauty and wonder. Flowers go to seed and more flowers result. Stars go supernova and more stars result.

Do you want more beauty in your life? BE more beautiful.

Do you want more peace in your life? Be more peaceful.

Do you want more love in your life? Be more loving.

Do you want more abundance in your life? Be more abundant.

Do you want more time in your life? Be more present in the here and now.

Become as the flowers; check out the lilies of the valley.

Prosperity in those things desired is the result of sowing the appropriate seeds, nurturing the seedlings, removing the weeds that crop up and hanging around (or persisting) to catch the blooms.

Flower Gardening

For most of us flower gardening is a trial and error game, regardless of the amount of information we read. It is a game where patience and determination wins out in the end and regardless of what we read only planting and waiting will truly tell if what you're doing is right. You can have a good idea of what you want to plant where, but only you know the kind of soil you have and what your climate is like. These have a great all influence on what you plant. If you're creative, have you every thought of starting a flower garden from seed and not from the plants that you pick up at the nearest greenhouse? This could prove to be a challenge and in the end very rewarding.

In propagating your own seeds, you will find it rewarding, but you will also find it a lot cheaper. So for those of you on a budget this is the way to go. One of the first things you will need is a box or tray, which has to be at least 3 to 4 inches deep and twelve to fourteen inches wide and twenty-four inches long.

Once you get your container ready, get a good raising mix to put your seeds in. A good mixture for this would be eighty five percent washed river sand and fifteen percent peat moss or if this is too difficult for you to get, just pick up a bag at the greenhouse. Fill your tray almost to the top with your mixture and pat it down firmly. Make rows across the top of your mixture as you would in your garden. The rows should be a half-inch deep and two inches apart. Put your seed in eight to ten along the rows and then cover them. It is very important to water them well, but the soil should be kept moist not wet. Cover the top of your tray with glass or saran wrap. This will speed up the procedure of germination. Once the seeds have germinated, you can remove this covering.

Flower Gardens

One such specialized type of garden is one that is devoted to the cultivation of flowers. Flower gardens are popular due to their aesthetic appeal. Located on large tracts of land they make commercial sense, as flowers have a worldwide market. Size is not a restricting factor for the beauty of a flower garden. Creativity and a love for plants and flowers can transform a small plot into a rare treat for the eyes. Human creativity in this field can be seen in the form of a rock garden, a bonsai garden, a tropical garden, a Chinese garden, a Zen garden, a cottage garden, a Japanese garden or a water garden. Whatever their type, these gardens add a lot of beauty to their surroundings.

Large flower gardens are huge crowd pullers. Tourists from far off places throng to see nature’s bounty nurtured. As increased tourist activity brings in good revenues state administrations take a lot of care in maintaining their gardens. Planned events like flower shows bring out the best gardening talents in the neighborhood and encourage people to take up gardening.

Maintaining a garden that celebrates all the colors of nature does need some expertise. From planting the seeds that bring forth flowering plants to all that goes into maintaining them, each step has been studied extensively in several universities. A lot of information is available for anyone who is interested on all gardening topics such as seeds, organic manure and pesticides, the right kind of soil and advice as to the suitability of a particular place for particular plants, and so forth. There is, however, no replacement for wisdom that an experienced gardener can offer. It would be wise to approach an avid gardener for tips that no manual or book on gardening would have.

Flower Gardens

Rows and rows of glorious flowerbeds greet you. Dew-drenched fragrances soothe a tired soul and waft you away to paradise. Flower gardens thrill people the world over, providing welcome respite from humdrum routines and a special radiance to weather-beaten concrete and steel.

Everybody loves to be surrounded by flowers. Building your own special flower garden can be a terrific challenge. You may have only a tiny patch of dream space or acres of open countryside. Small, medium or king-sized, garden designs must be carefully plotted and labored over for the best results.

Experienced landscape designers can innovatively brainstorm with you for your large garden. Professional guidance in arbor-placements, pathways, flowerbeds, hedges and trees can save you time, money and planting nightmares. The job can be designed into manageable parts so that you can work on it in stages, according to budget, priority and seasons. Designers can even recommend the planting schedule, good suppliers for the seeds and manpower for hire.

Small and medium-sized gardens permit an entrepreneurial approach, provided a mental blueprint has been laid. Your style of home, decides your garden style. Traditional mansions can be formally laid out with straight flowerbeds and lines of trees. Country homes permit more casual curves of blooms and tumbling lush greenery. Modern structures may be more carefully lined in Asian or tropical style, depending on weather and sunshine available.

Sun and shade definitely play decisive parts in your flower garden. Broadly speaking, flower seasons are early, mid and late season. Balance your colors by season of bloom. For perpetual season colors, plant in groups so that one fading bunch greets another just in bloom. Select perennials with attractive leaves so plants still look good after the bloom season. Mix the magic cycles of flowering trees, shrubs and flower beds with great-looking fall trees leading to spring blooms followed by a riot of mid-summer madness.

In the scheme of garden things, don't forget your cat or dog. Bare soil can lead to pet deliriums, so pack shrubs tight, build attractive picket fences and stone pathways, install a dog-digging pit, cat-scratching post and outside litter box. Tall ornamental grass on flowerbed edges doesn't damage so easily and keep frisky pets out. New saplings enclosed with chicken wire save you many futile guarding exercises.

Many enthusiasts are replacing formal gardens with wild flowers or prairie gardens, which are great support systems for the birds and the crawlies. Flower gardens can go white, pastel, hot or contrast. Let each to his. Let the joy of blooms reach out and bless the Giver and the given alike.

Flower Arrangements

Flower arrangement is an art that first originated centuries ago and traveled all over the world, taking different forms in different countries is now a part of our lives. Flower arrangements first appeared in Classical Greek and Roman times and went on to be defined as an art in Europe from the 14th –17th centuries before turning east to America, China, and Japan.

The principles of traditional flower arrangements are balance, harmony, proportion, and color. All flower arrangements, if done in the traditional style, must embody these principles. These designs are inherited from an earlier time and are said to be decorative and appealing to our senses of touch, smell, and color in their form, texture, and fragrance.

If you have a garden that you would like to use for arranging flowers, find a vase you would like to use and support it with a base to stick flowers into. Cut flowers from your garden early in the morning, as the stems contain more water in them than later in the day and won’t wilt as quickly, then synchronize the color of your flowers with your environment. Of course, with practice, you can do much more inventing as you go along.

Since flower arranging is an art, how your arrangement looks finally depends on its creator. You can custom design your flower arrangements to suit a variety of occasions such as a wedding, corporate event, anniversary, or birthday. You can also make flower arrangements from all kinds of materials such as fresh flowers, dried flowers, silk flowers, and paper flowers. You can dress up your life with well designed flower arrangements. Choose, innovate, and create the magic of flower arrangements for fun and style.

Flower Shops

As the need for flower gifts and flower arrangements is fast increasing, the industry of floristry is booming. As you may have noticed, there are flower shops on every street corner. Flower stands also abound in almost every major city on every street. These shops and stands offer a variety of flowers for every occasion -- birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, holidays, etc.

There are also flower shops that offer flower arrangements and consulting services for big parties such as weddings and birthday celebrations. Such services typically include floral decorations and arrangements for the venues and churches. Corsages and bouquets are also included depending on the deal.

Flower shops offer a variety of services. To better suit your needs, you have to check the kind of flower shops available in your area and the commodities they offer. Generally, there are four types of flower shops. These include the traditional full service shops, the studio shops, the kiosks and freelancers. Freelancers don’t necessarily have a shop, but are people who offer their talents and skills in floral services. Traditional shops, on the other hand, are those shops that have regular business hours and offer almost every service known in the floral business. If you’re looking for flower shops offering special services, the traditional type is what you need.

On the other hand, studio flower shops are small stores offering limited services and consultations. If you’re looking for a variety of flowers, this type of shop will fit your needs. If you’ve come across floral stands in the center of your local malls, in transport stations such as train, bus terminals, ports, etc. they are the kiosks types of shop.

It is important that you know the types of flower shops available to you. Hence, you can avoid going to shops that don’t really offer the kinds of services you need. For more flower shops references, the Internet offers lots of online sites. These sites include information such as locations, contact numbers, etc. Printed materials like magazines and books about flowers may also include ads of various flower shops and their commodities.

Flower Power

Ah...Spring. After months of cold weather, of course you think of flowers when spring arrives. I will cover many different angles of the beautiful flowers of Spring, including; edible flowers, toxic flowers, flower recipes, tips on how to care for them, and rose colors...what do they say? Come...join me...

The Best Flowers for Spring

Please note: Not all of the flowers in this article are edible. Please see the list below for which flowers are edible and which ones are poisonous.

Tulips - (from genus "Tulipa") From the Turkish for turban, after its rounded form. They are originally from the Middle East and are available November to May (January to April for British tulips).

Tulip Care Tips: Tulips continue to grow in water and will curve towards the light. Make allowances for this when putting them in a vase or wrap the stems tightly in newspaper and stand them in water directly beneath a light for a few hours.

Dill - The botanical name is Anethem graveolens. Graveolens means having a strong scent. Dill is available from spring to autumn. It is a cousin of the humble carrot. Dill has a pungent and tangy flavor. It is best used with breads, fish, cheese, salads, and vegetables - especially cucumbers.

Dill Care Tips: Part sun part shade, keep damp, but not over-wet.

Lily of the Valley - (from genus "Convallaria", full name "Convallaria majalis") It was first cultivated in1420. It is mostly available in the months of April and May. The Lily of the Valley signifies a "return to happiness". It is also frequently used in bridal arrangements for their sweet perfume. Traditionally associated with May 1st, especially in France where the "muguet" is handed out at special events.

Lily of the Valley Care Tips: Must not be left out of water too long. Keep cool and shaded.

Sweet Pea - Botanical name is Lathyrus odoratus - odoratus means scented. They originated in Italy and are available March to November. Sweet peas mean "delicate pleasures".

Sweet Pea Care Tips: Keep cool, always in water, and away from ripening fruit. Commercial sweet peas are treated after cutting to prolong their life; garden-cut ones may only last one or two days but florists' peas can last over a week.

Roses - (from genus "Rosaceae") Botanical name Rosa - It is originally from China and is now cultivated from America to Africa and from Eastern Europe to the Far East. It is available all year round and probably the best known and best-loved flower in the world.

Rose Care Tips: Limp roses can be revived by standing up to their necks in lukewarm water in a cool room. Do not bash the stems as this prevents them taking up water effectively.

Speaking of roses, the next time you buy them for someone special, make sure that you pick the right color for the person or occasion.

ROSE COLOR MEANINGS:

Red: love, respect, and devotion

Deep Pink: gratitude, appreciation, and thank you

Light Pink: admiration, respect, sympathy, and regard

White: reverence, humility

Yellow: joy, gladness, friendship, and social

Orange: enthusiasm, desire

Red and Yellow: gaiety, joviality, fun-loving, humorous

If you plan on entertaining this spring...you may want to make a beautiful flower ice bowl for presentation of one of your cold dishes or use it as a centerpiece.

FLOWER ICE BOWL CENTER PIECE:

You will need:
assorted spring flowers...or just one kind
greenery (optional)
water
masking tape
2 glass bowls with a size difference of 2 inches

Place a few of your flowers on the bottom of the larger bowl. Place the smaller bowl in the larger bowl, on top of the flowers. Fill the space between the bowls, slowly, with water. Using a skewer to push them down into the water, add the rest of your flowers in the space around the bowl. Secure the smaller bowl in the larger bowl using the masking tape. Wrap the tape tightly across the top of the bowls, making sure that the smaller bowl is centered. Freeze at least 4 hours, or overnight. Remove from freezer and let stand for 5 minutes. Gently pull smaller bowl and remove your ice bowl from larger bowl. Put it in the freezer until you are ready to use it.

You can use these ice bowls to serve; salad, custards, fruit, sherbert, or you may fill it with fresh flowers and use it as a centerpiece.

This is also great for other seasons. Just change the type of flower and greenery to fit the season!

Flower Gifts

If you want to gift it right, invest in flowers. Life's many hurly-burly capers are best tackled through flowers to enfold the giver and the recipient in waves of human bonding. Flowers combine a mysterious subtlety and breath-taking beauty that unfailingly connect to the occasion.

So if it is a red-letter day, beguiling interlude, rumbles in a relationship, painful parting or dappled moments that call for an immediate response, communiqués through flowers are your best bet. A spontaneous bunch of flowers never hurt but if you want to be politically correct, then check out the facts, especially if your flowers go to people outside your cultural spectrum.

Florists can offer enough guidance. A quick net surf can also guide you on flower etiquette for the month, day, zodiac, country, emotion or situation you find yourself in. Colors, numbers and types of flowers, ingenious packaging/presentation can all be tailor made for maximum impact.

Bouquets, nosegays or tussie-mussies, posies, corsages, garlands, wreaths, pot pourri, potted bonsais or herbs, lush gift baskets, exotic seedlings, flower club memberships or even pressed flowers - the variation is endless. Flower essences, flower-scented candles, cosmetics and toiletries are other engaging gift ideas that allure or soothe the recipient.

Flowers that confer joy, enchantment and fellowship come in a myriad shapes, sizes and colors. If you believe that flowers work best on the plant itself, then dried, glazed or artificial flowers guarantee a longer shelf life. If you still feel squeamish about the dried and pressed look, there are many other alternatives. Choose from gorgeous flower motifs in apparel, jewelry, photo frames, vases, bowls, stationery, paperweights, calendars, flower-shaped chocolates, indoor or outdoor collectibles in metal, glass, ceramic, porcelain, plastic, paper, cloth, earth, music, poetry, art and literature.

A cascade of floral weaves can cross boundaries and evoke powerful responses. Fresh or carefree, serene or sensual, poised and elegant-flowers can define your relationships with cutting edge accuracy. So shake off the blues, drum up the enthusiasm, heal the wounds and bedeck the opportunity with flowers.

Flower Paintings

Painting is an expression of an artist's imagination and reflects his perception of the world around him. Painters are usually inspired by scenery, landscapes, and other elements of nature. Most painters are captivated by the beauty and aesthetic appeal of various types of flowers. It is especially challenging to paint rare flowers or flowers that have a short blooming period. Flower painters capture the essence of these flowers on their canvas and paint them in various shades to give it a natural effect. Flower painting has been existence since a very long time and several conventional as well as contemporary artists have portrayed different varieties of flora in their paintings.

The level of satisfaction derived from painting flowers is far more than capturing them in photographs. Many art books are exclusively devoted to flower painting techniques and styles. Many new painters are also fascinated with flower painting and can begin with simpler flowers with less color variations. While painting flowers, it is important to emphasize on the colors and curves of petals and leaves. By playing with light effects, painters can give a different feel to the painting.

Beginners can also start flower painting with their favorite flower. However, several attempts may be required to get the exact nuances of color and form. It helps a great deal to draw using different types of colors and mediums to achieve a variety of textures. Watercolors are widely used by flower painters to blend colors more effectively.

Flower paintings of various renowned artists, both conventional and contemporary, are showcased in several museums and art galleries. Many unknown painters of great potential and talent promote and sell their paintings through their own websites. Original paintings of famous artists can be exorbitantly priced and can become prized possessions for many. Buyers have the choice of purchasing reproductions of these paintings that can come at an affordable price.

Lotus, rose, tulips, and orchids are some of the most popular subjects of flower paintings. Several painting schools lay special emphasis on this style of painting.

Flower Gardening

The secrets to a beautiful flower garden are knowing what flowers you are planting and when and where you are planting them. If you are new to planting, it is best to start small to guarantee success.

When you select your plants (20 to 30 to start), choose mostly annuals (flowers that are planted every year) and a few perennials (plants that will keep coming back). Make sure you know how much sun you need and choose a site with good soil. You can purchase a soil testing kit. Don’t plant near trees, as they compete for water.

Dig down into the ground at least eight inches and remove all rocks and debris. Level the ground with a rake and fertilize with compost or manure. These can be purchased at any gardening shop or greenhouse. Add peat moss or grass cuttings to increase water capacity and lime is the soil has too much acid. Using a rake, level the bed.

Plant seeds or plants according to directions, smaller plants in the front, and larger plants in the rear of the garden. Water the area thoroughly, and watch your garden grow. There are a great number of garden supply stores both online and in your neighborhood, as gardening is an age-old tradition that is not going away. These stores usually have everything you need. But mix and match your sources for plants, since you will probably want your garden to be unique. Make your garden a thing of your own imagination, and consider it an art form.

Flower Power!

Many fail to realize the power flowers have on our emotional well being. Flowers overwhelm our senses with exotic fragrances and beauty. They play on our need for belonging, attention and attraction and most of all; flowers remind us that we are somehow “special” to someone.

So why do so many people underestimate the simple sentiment of flowers?

Reasons people give for not sending flowers are that they do not know where to start and that not everyone appreciates flowers, especially men.

Locating a florist near you is simple. By searching through your local phone directory or by doing an Internet search for Florists you can easily access an extensive directory of florists that should be able to accommodate deliveries in your area, nation and world wide.

Locating a florist near you, that is suited to your needs, however, may be a little more difficult. Asking a florist if they have an active database that they use for their clients is always a helpful hint. Active databases store vital information about customer, such as past purchases, delivery information, preferences and needs and “special dates to remember”.

In addition, ask if the florist performs a client profile survey. This type of survey informs the florist of upcoming special occasions for each of their customer’s data via the database. Many of times, I myself have been “reminded” of my anniversary by my personal florist through a personal phone call or by a mailer. This act alone is one of the best indicators as to how good a florist’s customer service is. Choosing the right flowers can also be quite simple. If a client survey is performed and an active database is utilized a professional florist should easily be able to determine if a bouquet of Daisies is appropriate for your occasion or if the arrangement calls for something more sophisticated. If you are still uncertain, it is also helpful to visit the florist’s show room. This will enable you to better visualize the type of selection that will best convey your sentiment.

However, things to consider when sending a man flowers are his personal style, office décor, and personal hobbies. Most professional florists try to integrate this knowledge into the design and flower selection of the arrangement. For example; if the man you are sending flowers to is a golfer, your personal florist may want to add golf balls or tees to the arrangement. Men are also stimulated by color and are visually oriented, so it may be a good idea for the florist to use bright vivid colors as well.

Just as women love receiving flowers, it turns out, men do too. A survey, conducted by the Society of American Florists, showed that over 60% of men responded in favor of receiving flowers on special occasions and holidays, particularly Valentine’s Day.

As the need to exhibit personal gratitude, love, appreciation, and concern grows in our emotionally intellectual society it has never been a better time for people to stop and send some flowers.

Flower Delivery

In today's frenetic world, saying it with flowers is no longer a walk in the park. Flower business is tricky with seasons, longevity, time, place, weather and tastes, ruling the terms. Florists are fast becoming important service providers in a mercurial, niche market. If you are tongue-tied by emotion or an occasion, seek a florist well versed in floriography or the language of flowers, to articulate it best. They can brilliantly bouquet your feelings, tag a well-worded enclosure card and deliver with panache. Putting together highly personalized object d'arts, florists cater to individual needs as well as corporate events, private functions, school and college ceremonies or public extravaganzas.

Choosing the right florist can be tough. Check with friends, family, church, local yellow pages, floral guides or website recommendations to select the right person. Whether florists operate from homes, stores, supermarkets, garden supply stores or through on-line brokers, word-of-mouth recommendations are the safest bet. Out-of-city deliveries mean that your florist must be part of a floral wire service or national affiliation that makes for easy networking.

Decide on the budget and then customize the selection. If the basket must be delivered, provide the name, address and contact telephone number, as well as the best time it needs to be dropped off. Give the florist at least a few days' prior notice and remember to sign the personal card that goes with it.

For busy individuals, flower delivery via telephonic orders is an easy option. But spell out choices on color, single type or mixed flower arrangement and offer the same information on the recipient that you would do at the store. Payment can be by any major credit card or through an in-house account.

For big events, flower delivery orders must be placed at least a month in advance to enable the florist schedule order-supply-delivery and set-up time. Especially if it is the holiday season, flower delivery can be fraught with hits and misses. Provide all the information about the location, purpose and scope of the event, so that the final delivery is top notch. And ensure your contract spells it all out, including taboo flowers, second choices, rental, delivery, set-up costs, payment schedule, cancellation or refund clauses.

Let that spontaneous gesture of love and attention be an indelible one-affirm it with flowers and remain a delightful forget-me-not.

Flower Gardening

Flower gardening is becoming more and more popular every day. Flowers can brighten everyone’s day, they smell nice, and are a great hobby. Flower gardening is simple, inexpensive, and loads of fun. Flower gardening can be done for yard decoration, simply as a hobby, or even professionally.

There are some decisions that have to be made before even flower gardening can be started. You must decide if you want annuals that live for one season and must be replanted every year, or perennials that survive the winter and return again in the summer. When buying and planting, pay attention to what kind of flowers thrive in your climate as well ass the sun requirements. When flower gardening, you must decide what type of look you want before planting. For instance, mixing different heights, colors, and varieties of flowers together in a “wild-plant style” will give your garden a meadow look and can be very charming. If short flowers are planted in the front of your garden and work up to the tallest flowers in the back you will have a “stepping stone style”.

You can order seeds for flower gardening from catalogues or buy them from a nursery. Most people will go to the nursery and buy actual flowers and then transplant them. After you have prepared your garden area and bought flowers, it is a good idea to lay the flowers out in the bed to make sure you like the arrangement and that they will be spaced properly. One of the easiest processes in flower gardening is the planting/ if you have seeds just sprinkle them around in the flower bed. For planting transplants dig a hole just bigger than the flower, pull the container off, and set the flower in the hole right side up. Cover it with the loose soil and press down firmly, then water.

Maintaining a flower garden is even easier than planting one. Although they might make it on their own, a bag of fertilizer applied in the early spring is a good idea. Pinch back any blooms after they start to fade and keep them good and watered. To save yourself work during the next season of flower gardening, rid your garden of all debris and spread out organic nutrients like peat moss or compost. Don’t forget to turn over the soil to properly mix in the fertilizer and rake smooth when finished. If you have perennials planted be careful not to disturb their roots in this process.

Flower gardening is as easy as 1, 2, and 3: simply decide what to plant; plant it, and water, water, water! Flower gardening is undoubtedly gaining in popularity and gives anyone excellent reason to spend some outdoors and test out their green thumb.

Flower Girl Accessories to Make Her the Flower Girl that You Envision

Your flower girl's a doll. That's why you picked her. She's a real treasure that you naturally want to deck out with flower girl accessories. But that's not why you should shower that little girl with fun treasures that mark the occasion. Rather, remember that to your friends and extended family who don't know her, she's just another little girl. Well chosen and lovely flower girl accessories help them to see her the way you do. But even better, they will make her feel like the princess that she is.

One function of many flower girl accessories is to help a young girl to understand her role in the celebration of your big day. Books written for children about the role she will play in your wedding will help in many cases. But sometimes simply a gift of everyday apparel that announces her place in your wedding helps her to understand the importance of the role and to revel in it.

But it doesn't stop there! The jewelry and special baskets can help a flower girl to understand and embrace her role as well. Just seeing and anticipating the opportunity to put on the jewelry is enough for many girls to suddenly turn into little ladies prepared to embrace their role as the junior lady in waiting in the regal court of your wedding.

A real benefit to you, beyond the bond you build with your flower girl by having her as a real part of your wedding is that you can find accessories to fit your wedding theme:

- Are you planning a fairytale princess themed wedding? Then a child sized tiara might be just perfect for your flower girl. Or perhaps equipping your junior attendants with silver attendant bells would be just the finishing touch your wedding needs.

- Are your decorations centered on pearls? Get your flower girl a pearl jewelry set.

- Are you building a beach themed wedding? A beach themed wedding, even one that's not near the beach, could be completed with the help of a beach themed flower girl basket.

Ultimately, if you think them through and use them well, flower girl accessories can be a major asset to your wedding day.

Of course, there is one more value worth mentioning. The little woman that you have chosen to be in your wedding is special - very special, or you wouldn't have chosen her. Show her how much you value her with flower girl accessories that she will treasure for years to come.

Flower Gardening: Have Your Flower Garden Bursting With Color All Year Round

Flower gardening need not be restricted to just summertime. Planning carefully and planting ahead of time, will have the garden filled with an array of flowers for all of the year round.

Let's plan the seasons, then for spring flowers, the best thing would be to plant bulbs. Any nursery will supply them, and if you're more disposed towards the exotic, and rare flower bulbs, there's a good chance that they will need to be ordered specially.

The most popular amongst bulb lovers are early springtime Crocuses, and cheerful Snowdrops. Tulips though, have shown to be the most famous of bulbs in demand by flower gardeners, and are available in a variety of colors, including a black-colored one, which is really more of a dark maroon.

Remember that all spring flowering bulbs should be planted in mid autumn, as this is the best time for them. Come any closer to winter and you're in danger of losing your whole crop of bulbs completely.

Moving through to summer, perennials are the firm favorite for flower gardening as they bare blooms almost continuously throughout the summer season, and on occasion longer. With a little luck and care, the perennials will last through to next year, and the following year. It's also found that as the years and the seasons roll on, your perennials will become fuller, and generally will become more abundant than the first year you planted them.

As autumn approaches most flower gardens are left with only few small hardy plants to choose from. For those more dedicated to flower gardening, that need not be the case.

So, take heart, take plenty of notes, plan, and buy to your heart's content. By the end of it all you truly will have a flower for every season, and your flower gardening efforts will be rewarded most bountifully

Ron is the webmaster and owner of http://www.gardeningmoments.com and would like to share his passion and ideas for creating a fantastic garden. Flower Gardening is not restricted to certain times of the year have flowers bursting with color all year round.

Flower of the Month: Decorating in Flower Scented Style!

The origins of flowers associated with each month of the year go back at least to the Middle Ages. The combinations vary in different parts of the world, but this list is widely used in the United States and Britain.

January
Carnation’s traditionally signify fascination, admiration, pure love, or Mother’s love. Pink carnations are especially significant to the Christian belief, where it is said that when Mother Mary saw her son, Jesus, carrying his cross, she shed a tear, and from the place that tear fell, a carnation grew. From that time on, it has been believed to signify a mother’s undying love for her children.

February
Violets symbolize modesty, faithfulness, and virtue.

March
Based on Narcissus, a character in Greek Mythology who fell in love with his own reflection in the mirror. They are symbols of Chivalry, respect, fidelity, or unrequited love.

April
Daisies symbolize cheerfulness, friendship, rest, abundance, and wealth. Red daisies mean love, yellow daisies mean slighted love, while white daisies mean truth.

May
The Lily of the Valley symbolizes sweetness, return of happiness, and Completion.

June
Roses are symbolic of love, but different colors have separate meanings. Red means love, respect, and courage. Pink means grace, and perfect happiness. Dark pink means gratitude. Light pink means admiration or sympathy. White means innocence, purity, secrecy, and humility. Yellow means undying lover, platonic love, and friendship. Orange means passion, or desire. Blue means extraordinary, or mystery. Red roses are the most sought after flowers for a Valentine's Day gift.

July
The water lily signifies flight of fancy, ardent attachment, and agility.

August
The gladiolus signifies grace, strong and strong character.

September

October
Cosmos are a single flower atop a delicate, sometimes hairy stem, in white, red, pink, brown, orange, yellow, or purple

November
Chrysanthemums, also called daisies or mums, mean you're a wonderful friend, and are symbolic of rest, loveliness, abundance, wealth.

Flower Delivery of Chrysanthemum - What Does the Flower Convey & Why Is It So Popular

Come fall, and you can see gardens brimming with big and bright Chrysanthemums. These majestic flowers are among the popular ones that are sent across through flower delivery. Some like to grow them in yards, some prefer decorating them in different arrangements for interiors, and some love gifting them.

Chrysanthemums, also called Mums, come in different colours, patterns and sizes. The vitality and the variety of Chrysanthemums gives us joy and also helps us express ourselves. Different colours convey different meanings and different varieties suit different occasions.

Varieties: Red Rover Mums, Safari Sunset Mums, Football Mums, Curly Willow Mums, Spider Mums, Pompom Mums and Daisy Mums.

Colours: white, orange, yellow, purple, bronze, pink, and red. While reds say “I love You”, the yellows express slighted love; on the other hand, whites symbolise truth.

Chrysanthemum derives its name from two Greek words: 'chrysos' + 'anthemon'. 'Chrysos' means gold; 'anthemon' which means flower. This new word – chrysanthemum – is coined by Swedish botanist Karl Linnaeus, who had introduced this flower to the western world.

Not just western world, Chrysanthemums are also quite popular in the oriental world. The Chinese find it as a wonderful cure for headache, delicious as salad, and refreshing as a festive tea. Japanese adopted a single chrysanthemum as the crest and official seal of the Emperor. They celebrate Festival of Happiness by earmarking a day as the National Chrysanthemum Day.

Chrysanthemums are loved all over the world, not just for their beauty and benefits, but also for their longevity. They have a life span of up to two weeks. That makes them a wonderful gift, as the beauty and vibrancy of these flowers would linger on to the senses for a long time.

It is very simple to send chrysanthemums to someone with the help of online flower delivery services. Just choose flower delivery and submit some details. Your wishes along with fresh Chrysanthemum reaches your dear ones on the right time.

Online Florists - Send Flowers Online When You're In a Hurry

You did it again, didn't you? Forgot until the last minute that birthday, anniversary, graduation, promotion, or fill-in-the-blank-here. No fear, online florists are here. No longer do you have to work in that lunch time stop at the florist shop. Now customized flowers are just a hop, skip, and click away. With the added bonus of being in an international market, most of these online florists offer same day delivery to cover up even the most forgetful patrons.

The time factor is just one of the conveniences that online florists offer over their in-store competitors. In addition to saving time and having online tracking to verify your order, you can get virtual pictures of bouquets, so you don't have to leave anything to the imagination.

There are also some online florists who offer not only national but international delivery as well.

Online florists aren't just for flowers, either. If the typical dozen roses routine won't do, order some chocolate or a gourmet coffee basket. Personalized cards and gift ideas are a feature on most online florist websites. The virtual world of flora offers a variety that your local shop just can't compete with. As the times move ahead, and faxes and email replace the post office, it would be foolish if the sentimental laboratory of florists couldn't keep up.

Holding on to the romantic notion of the local flower shop? No worries. In most cases, the order you place online will get farmed out to a local florist who will make the delivery to your loved one, colleague, or secret admiree. So the "shop around the corner" is not lost, but in the spirit of the rest of the World Wide Web, the global community has in fact come to not only your email box, your netflix queue and your office conference calls, but now also to your local flower shop.
